More About Us

Tom Janis

The most important thing for you to know about me is that my commitment to you is to treat every purchase and sale as if it were my own.

A native of Chicago, I was privileged to spend summers by the sea in Narragansett, RI. After graduating from URI, I moved to Little Compton, RI.

Like many young folks, the city called, and I answered by moving to Boston’s South End (the sea still called, and I had a house in Provincetown as well). Invited to a dinner party in Gloucester, I fell in love with the beauty of Cape Ann and bought a house with the ocean view I’d longed for the next day. It was the best impromptu decision. Cape Ann is a special place, and I’ve never felt more part of a community.

Professionally, I worked in sales and sales leadership for two Fortune 500 companies, IBM, and Dun & Bradstreet. There I negotiated complex, multi-million dollar global contracts, but Real Estate was in my blood, and I decided to leave corporate America to pursue my passion. Engel & Völkers By the Sea was my top choice for the leadership and teamwork I enjoy here.

Devlyn Brackett

In 1994, Devlyn began her real estate career on Nantucket Island at Island Properties, where she was the office manager and administrator for 2 years, assisting the office’s 10 agents. After moving to the mainland and a short break from real estate to pursue her college major of accounting, Devlyn returned to real estate and became licensed in 2000  with a focus on Cape Ann and the North Shore. We are pleased to have Devlyn as an important part of our Engel & Völkers By the Sea family, consistently one of our top producers, year after year, earning the Diamond Distinction in 2018 and selling the 2 highest priced homes in 2017 and 2018. Devlyn has been a part of the North Shore community for over 20 years and has enjoyed being a full-time advisor here for nearly the past 15 years. She specializes in Beverly, Beverly Farms, Prides Crossing, Manchester/Essex, Hamilton/Wenham and Gloucester and firmly believes that it is a necessity for an agent to know their community well in order to truly serve her clientele.

As a member of the community, Devlyn has served as co-president for the Beverly Farms/Prides Mother’s Club, raising money for the local libraries and women’s shelters. She had served as President of the Parents’ Association of her children’s elementary school, Board of Trustees for 2 years, and sat on multiple committees. She has helped raise millions of dollars for the school’s faculty and student enrichment programs, as well as for financial aid. With 20 years experience buying and selling homes and being involved passionately in her community, she is a pillar of the Engel & Völkers By the Sea team. Over the past 20 years, Devlyn has bought and sold 9 homes of her own with a track record of achieving significant returns with limited days on the market. With a sophisticated understanding of the local real estate market, Devlyn guides her clients through the exciting process of home buying and selling.
